Dial-up vs. DSL Internet ServiceWritten by: Brad Dudley - Jul 3, 2008
It is a very common question. "How do I know when it is time to switch to dsl internet?" There are many things to consider when comparing dial-up and dsl internet service.
Dial up is very slow, usually around 30kbps. Whereas, dsl service can range anywhere from 512kbps to 6mbps. For a lot of people dial up is fine for home applications, but if you have a small business that has more than one connection you need speed! You need a dsl internet connection.
One more factor is cost. Dial-up internet service can range from less than $10 per month to more than $25 with some of the bigger providers. Some dsl companies offer service for as little as $19.95 per month in some areas. In these places it is a "no brainer", go with the dsl.
So, if you are not concerned with the speed of your internet connection, or dsl is not available in your area, stick with dial-up. But, if speed is more critical to you than cost and dsl is available in your area, "What are you waiting for?"
